1910 Craftsman

1910 Craftsman For all you Craftsman lovers out there….this one’s for you. What a joy to see a Craftsman with all of its original woodwork intact and so well cared for. This 1910 Historical Craftsman Landmark Home is located in Park Santiago in Santa Ana. The area isn’t specifically a historic district, though you do find a few mixed in here and there. But it is a charming neighborhood, mostly made up of post-war 40′s and 50′s construction with nice sized yards and tree lined streets.

Known as the Kleidosty House, this Craftsman home is architecturally significant and is an outstanding example of Craftsman design. It is historically noteworthy as one of a handful of Santa Ana ranch houses still in existence today. In the olden days, these homes stood guard over acres and acres of fields and orange groves. The lot size is still considered large by “city living” standards – 11,800 square feet is nothing to sneeze at. And the house itself is 3000 square feet – one of the larger Craftsmans I’ve seen in the area.

So many things make this home unique, where do I start? How about downstairs? This home has large basement, about 650 square feet to be exact. How great is that? In case you run out of room upstairs you can always use the extra space down below. Perhaps make it into the “man cave”? Just a thought…. My husband has been trying to claim our basement as his man cave for years. We’ve finished it now and use it as a wine cellar and billiard room. Later in the year we’ll probably add some couches and a flat screen and make it our unofficial media room. So many things you can do with a space like that. The home has a wonderful arched porch that would be great for relaxing or sipping lemonade. Or, how about putting a nice swing out there and just watching the world go by? The inside of this home is magnificent. It is in pristine condition and has all of it’s wood moldings, built-ins, picture rails, etc still there and looking as gorgeous as the day the home was built. Plus the huge lot is perfect for outdoor entertaining – high tea anyone?

If you’re interested in seeing this home we can arrange it. It is truly unique and quite a glorious example of Craftsman architecture.

This home at 2526 North Santiago, is the home my mom grew up in with her parents and brothers and sisters. I have so many happy memories. It has been years since I have been there (as my family sold it in the mid 80′s due to my Grandfather passing away). I don’t know if it is still intact, but my Grandfather had put our names in the concrete in the front of the house towards the driveway. It is such a huge part of my, many of my cousins, my Aunts, Uncles, and even my father’s side of the family. I sure hope whoever is living there now loves it as much as I did!
